As I was strolling through my favorite megastore the other day, something caught my eye. At first I thought I was seeing things, but a closer look confirmed I wasn’t. There in the toy aisle, nestled among all the Bratz and other Barbie dolls, was BDSM Barbie!

A closer inspection of the package told me her name wasn’t BDSM Barbie at all; it was Black Canary Barbie- apparently named after a DC Comics heroine. Hmmm, could have fooled me! Not being a comics connoisseur, I had never heard of Black Canary and couldn’t tell you what she looked like, however; being a Mistress, I can tell you what a Dominatrix looks like, and Black Canary Barbie screams Dominatrix.

I suppose I shouldn’t really be surprised- Barbie has always pushed the envelope and been at the forefront of controversy. At the time Barbie was created in 1959, dolls were modeled after the typical view of women in that era, housewives, mothers, teachers, etc. Barbie was the polar opposite- she had no family ties, was quite independent, and let’s face it- dressed a bit on the trashy side.

Barbie has gone through many changes over the years, but remains independent and self-sufficient. Barbie has never been portrayed as a doll, but as a hip-young woman living life to the fullest. And why wouldn’t she be- if you scale her to life size, her measurements would be 39-18-33!

Just about everybody has heard of bondage and submission, sadism and masochism and fetishism. What you may not know is that these behaviors are all part of a perversion known as a paraphilia. Paraphilias include: compulsive sexual behavior (nymphomania and priapism), sadism, masochism, and fetishism.

Compuslive sexual behavior includes things like:

* Having multiple sexual partners or extramarital affairs
* Having sex with anonymous partners or prostitutes
* Avoiding emotional involvement in sexual relationships
* Using commercial sexually explicit phone and Internet services
* Engaging in excessive masturbation
* Frequently using pornographic materials
* Engaging in masochistic or sadistic sex
* Exposing yourself in public (exhibitionism)

Nymphomania refers to excessive sexual desire in females, while priapism is the manifestation of an abnormally persistant erection, whether sexual desire is present or not.

Sadism is the act of deriving sexual excitement from inflicting pain, suffering and humiliation. Masochism is the act of deriving sexual excitement for receiving pain, suffering and humiliation.

Fetishism is a fixation on an object or body part that is not normally sexual in nature, using the object of fixation to produce an orgasm.

As promised yesterday, today’s blog topic is “What Makes a Good Mistress?” Dominance and Submission play requires one who is willing to submit and one who is ready to exercise control. While it is true that not all dominates (dommes/doms) are women and not all submissives are men, for the purpose of this article, it shall be so.

According to the book Fetish, there are five basics that make a good Mistress (in no particular order):

The ability to empathize with the fantasies and desires of another while maintaining their own personality and limits

A good imagination and ability to think quickly

Good manners and etiquette

The ability to laugh at oneself

The ability to listen

Power exchange brings a responsibility that should not be taken lightly. There is a fine line between maintaining control and keeping the sub happy. This is the reason I ask you at the beginning of each call, what it is you enjoy about being a submissive. When you are open and honest, telling me things you enjoy doing during dominance and submission play, we both will have a much more fulfilling experience.

If, when I ask you that question, you merely say “Whatever you want me to do Mistress, I will do it”, then you are at the mercy of “MY” fantasies, which may or may not be the same as your own. So, my dear subbies, unless you are *truly* prepared and happy to do *anything* I tell you to do, don’t give me that line!

It’s not rocket science here, subbies… I ask you that question before going into the scene FOR A REASON!!
